  • We are building and apparently need a new transformer. Does anyone have experience with this and have any idea how much it may cost? There are most likely 2 new houses that need to hook up to a new transformer. Any ideas of the approximate cost please let me know. Thanks! kimberly.berry@comcast.net
  • Sara Chavira, who runs the gallery in town while supporting the arts in La Ventana, has received approval of SAPA, for a local artist from La Paz to begin painting a mural on the wall of the water plant. She would like to host a meeting to introduce the artist and discuss the project, but in an interest of time (before it get’s too hot and too many people leave for the season) is hoping you will reach out to her directly to learn more. She is coordinating the raising of the funds and is seeking housing for the artist for about 2 weeks. If you are interested in contributing to, what may eventually be seen as, The Welcome to La Ventana Mural, please contact Sara directly at: sara.g.chavira@gmail.com, via WhatsApp: +52 612-218-8890 or in person at the Gallery in El Teso. While you are at the Plaza you can have lunch, grab a cup of coffee, enjoy the Wi-fi or do a little shopping. Melissa.Baum@choosebroadspire.com
  • To (Carly, I think), who helped me out of the worst kitemare of my life (10 years into this game). A constricted, tangled, death looping mess on south beach, noonish Monday - she won’t have forgotten! First time I’ve ever used my knife, thank god it was there. Never kite without one! So glad you were there. Reciprocity is in order. Please get in touch1 - kdpoupard@gmail.com

La Ventana Stories: Baja Hurricanes - (by Tom Spradley tomspradley@yahoo.com) Many residents and tourists here remember Hurricane Lorena that made landfall on Friday, September 20, 2019, in the south of the Baja California peninsula. As it moved along the eastern coast of Baja California Sur, Lorena caused damage in Los Planes, El Sargento, La Ventana, and Los Barriles. It uprooted dozens of trees and electric poles, disrupting power. Several houses and businesses were damaged. Long-time residents around Bahia de La Ventana have gone through many other hurricanes. But there is one they will never forget. Read on…

All Things Reptile - (by Chance Stevens) - The Cape Spiny-Tailed Iguana (Ctenosaura hemilopha) is a large, fast and semi-common lizard living in trees, walls, atop cacti and really anything that can offer a quick escape. These diurnal reptiles disappear at even the hint of danger, from both predators and herpetologists alike, making them a nightmare to catch and, for that reason, I don’t have any pictures of this lizard from the mainland.
Fortunately, these iguanas also live on our neighboring island, Isla Cerralvo. As they have far less predators there, they bask happily right on the ground and seem less offended by the Paparazzi, including me last week when I had the opportunity to visit.
Their diet is mostly plant-based but they will eat insects and even carrion on occasion. Their teeth are meant for ripping leaves but are quite good at ripping skin, too. Iguanas also have a small amount of venom, so avoiding bites is a good idea. And those are not their only defenses! After retreating into a rock crevasse, they will orient their spiny tails at the entrance of the hole and, if you try to extract them… well, let’s just say that a spine under the fingernail can be very painful.
If you want to talk or walk reptiles, email ChanceStevens123@icloud.com. And check out the new All Things Reptile page on the website, an archive of all of the reptile stories posted in the newsletter.
MasViento Wind Forecast - (Today: Sunny. North wind 16-20 mph) Satellite-derived winds had decreased to around 15 knots by last evening, and the latest numerical model forecasts show the background north flow will continue to weaken today. Infrared satellite loops depicted clear skies across the region this morning, so we will see another significant thermal boost this afternoon. Wes - daily forecasts: MasViento.
Farmers Market - The market is on! Every Thursday, located on the main road, Corredor Isla Cerralvo, just a few blocks north of Club Cerralvo.

Local Ambulance Services - A callout to all First Responders and Medical Personnel.
My name is Thomas Munro and I am a member of the Ambulance Support Group here in La Ventana. Professionally I am a retired fire captain and I am currently a training officer with the Justice Institute of BC, Canada. I have been bringing donated equipment and supplies down for our ambulance for 9 years, and have had the satisfaction of seeing how the crews have been able to use them to literally save lives.
If you are planning a visit to the La Ventana area, would you please consider bringing down unused or expired first aid equipment and supplies to our community. Since the pandemic the items which are needed most are 02 masks (standard and non-rebreather), NPAs and OPAs. If your department or clinic has expired disposable BVMs, instead of throwing them in the landfill please bring them here where they will be of great use in our community. Other items always needed here are AED pads and AED batteries for adults and children for both Lifepack, and Phillips Heartstart AEDs. Expired AED pads and batteries can and will be used if they are unopened and unused. Certain expired drugs can also be used here in Mexico.
Our local ambulance crew is run by dedicated and trained unpaid volunteers, virtually without government funding. They depend on donations and contributions from visitors and foreign residents. If you have any questions about suitable items to bring, please feel free to contact me. thomasmunrosr@gmail.com, on behalf of the Ambulance Support Group
Baja Conservation - During the last few years, there have been numerous local beach accesses closed that have historically been available for the public to use for picnics, water sports, wind sports, camping, etc.If the trend of closing off accesses continues, people who do not own beachfront property will not be able to continue recreating on these beaches.
Baja Conservation is a community group working with government agencies and organizations trying to ensure that there continues to be reasonable access to beach areas. Join Baja Conservation on Facebook to keep up to date on this issue. ruben.sanchez74@yahoo.com
