What’s Happening in La Ventana? Let us know if you have something to share or questions for the community.
  • Banorte has a relatively new process for paying annual fido fees remotely and by credit card. First email I saw from Banorte on this new payment method was dated Aug 2021.¬†Has anyone tried it? How well did it work out?¬†Thanks.¬†idakiteman@gmail.com
  • Housesitters Available - We are Rachida & Doug, available to house¬†sit your home any time. We live in El Sargento and will be staying in town most of the low season, searching for an alternative place to live while our casita is being planned & built. Experienced house sitters with well trained dog, and can provide references. Speak Spanish & would be happy to help with work around the property, if needed. Send us a message, and we look forward to meeting! rachida.khadar@gmail.com
  • Housesitters available - I‚Äôm Gabvyi, I work in Baja Joes at the bar, I was in charge of the mezcaleria last season and I have worked in some other places (Casa Tara, Chilo Chill) where you may have references of me and from a lot of people, I arrived 5 years ago and it is my home , this summer we are looking to housesit, we can take care of your plants or other pets, my partner also works with Todd and my little pomeranian/chihuahua Lua, we are hardworking, honest and reliable people, please feel free to stop by at the bar in Baja Joes to talk a little more about it. gabvyijimenez@gmail.com
Observing the Reef - Triggerfish are an interesting fish. I love the way they swim, and nap right on the sea floor in the middle of the day. They are a popular eating fish, often referred to as ‚ÄúChochito.‚ÄĚ Fish¬†populations fluctuate, right now where I snorkel, adult triggerfish are rare to see. It is my hope this population rebounds soon! Here‚Äôs some¬†bonus triggerfish footage to go along with the longer triggerfish video. William¬†desertplayer@hotmail.com

All Things Reptile¬†by Chance Stevens - The¬†Orange-Throated Whiptail¬†(Aspidoscelis hyperythra) is a slender, harmless and graceful lizard with a beautiful blue tail and sometimes an orange neck. Its Spanish name is Huico (pronounced ‚Äúwee-ko‚ÄĚ).
The whiptail is extremely fast and relatively small, growing up to around 2.5 inches, not including its frequently very long tail, which is composed of segments and is sometimes longer than the lizard itself! When being attacked by a predator, the tail can break off at any one segment to confuse the enemy and help the lizard escape. The tail grows back over time. Its diet is mostly termites but also sometimes cockroaches, spiders and moths. It is more active during the summer months. In the winter, in La Ventana we mostly see juveniles and occasional adult females, but rarely adult males.
This striking local resident is diurnal and prefers relatively dense vegetation but can be readily observed in dry grass fields and frequently yards. During warm, sunny or overcast days, however, they can be seen foraging in the leaf litter. Unlike many human residents, whiptails seem to prefer low or no-wind days.

MasViento Wind Forecast - (Today: Mostly sunny. North wind 16-18 mph) No satellite-derived winds were available this morning, but all of the latest model forecasts show the surface pressure gradient has weakened substantially, and yesterday’s strong north background flow has dropped to around 10 mph. Infrared satellite loops early this morning showed a few thin, high clouds to our west, but these shouldn’t significantly affect the thermal this afternoon. Similar conditions are expected through the next several days, with a slight bump up in winds possible on Saturday and Sunday depending on the thickness of high cloud cover. Wes - daily forecasts: MasViento.
Farmers Market - The market is on! Every Thursday, located on the main road, Corredor Isla Cerralvo, just a few blocks north of Club Cerralvo.
La Ventana Pickleball - I was pleased to host four amazing La Ventana pickleball players who entered our winter warm up tournament at Club La Huerta in San Jose Del Cabo. Thank you to Paola Masera, Carol Haug, Michael Haug and Nico Sueve. Congratulations to Michael and Nico for winning Gold in dominating fashion during their intermediate men’s doubles tournament. Thank you all for making the trip. Looking forward to seeing more of La Ventana next time. Brian Cretton. Head Pickleball Pro Club La Huerta. brian.cretton@gmail.com

Local Ambulance Services - After over 3 weeks of waiting to be fixed in the government workshop, our ambulance is still there. But the good news is that our resourceful Lupita Cosio Barrera has managed to get an ambulance on temporary loan from an organisation called Pro-Paramedico so we no longer have to wait for an ambulance to come from Los Planes or La Paz to respond to our emergencies.
A reminder that Lupita and her whole team are volunteers, operating with almost no funding from government or any other agency. Donations are the only way they survive. Please consider donating on paypal.me/ambulancia247. See the View’s Emergency Services page for more information on the Ambulance. chris.bradley3@gmail.com
