The Ventana View
FYI - Questions - Help
What’s Happening in La Ventana? Let us know if you have something to share or questions for the community.
  • Thursday evening open mic at Cornamenta is moved to 7-9pm Friday, November 26th this coming week to accommodate American Thanksgiving. Will return to Thursday nights thereafter. Come early to sign up to perform due to large demand. Darrellmstewart@gmail.com
  • I am looking for a local, or not far away mechanic that has knowledge to work on a UTV, Yamaha Rhino in particular. I need a reassembly on the top end of the engine. I will supply all the parts, cylinder, head and gaskets. Tony Madsen LV madairmadsen@shaw.ca
  • The Blue Razorfish. This fish has an unusual defense against predators. I became curious about it, so I set out to document this. My initial goal was to be able to end up with a decent still photo so I can ID the fish, and examine its physical construction. If I can capture it on video, then I can observe it’s behavior and watch how it physically propels itself through the water. Note: I have not seen any Blue Razorfish lately when I snorkel in Ventana Bay. So if you see one, you’re a lucky snorkeler. Please, let me know if you do! (Be sure to watch this video in HD to really appreciate the detail) William desertplayer@hotmail.com

Baja Birding Club - The Baja Birding Club is back in business! Our first outing will be a Sunday morning urban bird walk starting at Oscarito’s grocery store in El Sargento just north of the end of the pavement. Just show up there at 0700 this coming Sunday to beat the heat and catch the best bird activity. Bring water, sunscreen, decent footwear, and any binoculars and field guides you might have. You do not need to know anything about birds, and best of all, it is free! You can head home anytime you like. All ages welcome. No pets please.
MasViento Wind Forecast - (Today: Mostly sunny. Light and variable wind) No ASCAT passes last evening, but the latest numerical models show west winds this morning will likely become light and variable this afternoon. Clouds will begin to thicken tomorrow and may effectively shut down any thermal effects, so only light winds are expected. The clouds will likely linger through at least Saturday, and most models show relatively light background flow. The upper-level low will finally begin to move away from BCS on Sunday, but it now appears the next pulse of north wind will not begin until Monday. Sunshine should return on Monday and last well into next week, with sufficient north background flow likely lasting at least through Tuesday. Wes - daily forecasts: MasViento.
Community Action
Fundación Azul Cerralvo - Christmas is approaching, a joyful time for most of us, and a difficult time for those in need. This year again, Fundación Azul Cerralvo would appreciate your help. Justina has been working incredibly hard at providing food, medicine, medical supplies and household goods to the isolated families in the area, most of them with disabled people.
You can drop off donations at the Azul Cerralvo building, across from the baseball stadium: dried food, toys, gently used clothing… the list is endless. No junk, and no junk food, please! You can also donate money. I will collect cash, and Justina has a PayPal account
In years past, your generosity has been amazing, so we hope we can count on you again! Please email me if you have any questions: 2limeyfrog@gmail.com Thank you so much in advance, Mady
La Ventana Mountain Biking - Team Slime will be doing a major overhaul on the far south trails. These include: Readymade, Val’s Vista, Thelma and Louise, Julies’s Joyride and Goat Head. We are trying to do this repair work all on one day, Wednesday December 1. We are asking for as many workers as possible! Tools are available. Meet at the campground gate at 7:30.
No Más Basura - Our next Recycling Day will be tomorrow 25th of November. We will meet you on the west side of the Farmers Market.
All donation made last and this week will go to Sandra, one of our first NMB volunteers. She now is 13 and recently got diagnosed with Thyroid cancer. She just got back from Mexico City for evaluation and treatment options. Her journey to fight this continues here. The funds will be used for treatments, airfares and everything else that is needed but isn’t covered by the government. We appriciate all the help we can get to support her and her family!
Tire Bodega Project at Las Girasoles, the home of the NMB Palapa and our towns Community Garden. Would you like to learn how to build with tires? Physical ACTIVITY guaranteed! Or can you donate tires? If you see some on the side of the road. Rim size 15 and 16 is what we are looking for. For more info please contact us at Nomasbasuralv@gmail.com
Don’t forget, you still have time to get ride of items you either no longer need, like or want. The landfill isn’t the solution. Please bring them to us and we find a new home for it! Drop off @Casa Clara, the yellow house next to Casa Verde. Our NMB Benefit Aire libre Sale will take place at December11th at Casa Clara starting at 7am.
