  • I’m Daniela, staying here during the summer, and am looking to housesit. I worked in La Ventana 8 months ago, a lot of people know me. If you are interested let me know. Or if you do me in favor to share it with your friends I would appreciate it. We Can talk about it and we Can have a meet. 6121837804 gracias.
  • Myself, husband and son looking for a casitas to rent or a home to house sit this summer. We are about the get our land ready to park on our trailer for the next season but after hearing about the heat here I tough we would be better in a house for a few months. We don’t smoke, don’t really drink neither and are very respectful people In our forties years old. While you are away, we can also take care of you garden, plant and my husband has landscaping construction experience so we can help with that too. Anything you need and we will make sure the house and land is safe! Email or text 686-227-2353 melanie3d@gmail.com.
Baja Night Sky - We will have moonless skies after 9 pm the rest of the week, a great time to find some constellations and bright stars in the winter sky. Recently, I presented a Baja-Night-Sky program to children attending the Azul Cerralvo Foundation’s Tuesday evening get-together. They were enthusiastic and quick learners. After 20 minutes, they could find and name the nine brightest stars and the six constellations of the Winter Circle. Can you do that after a night out on the town? Kudos to Justina Dominguez, outstanding Azul Cerralvo director, and her helpers Sara, Melissa, Diego, Anibal, and Vladimir for their essential work. The next clear evening, go outside around 9 pm and look for the Big Dipper out over Isla Cerralvo. The second star in the handle is a double star. Mizar (the brighter) and Alcor are known as the Horse and Rider. The pair make a good test for your eyes. The last two stars in the Dipper’s bowl point to the North Star. Its altitude is our latitude. Next, look directly east and find the backward question mark (lying on its side) that forms the mane of the constellation Leo the Lion. Halfway to the zenith, in the south, is Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky. Below Sirius is Canopus, the second brightest star. The famous Cazador or hunter Orion is just to the upper right of Sirius. There is a gaseous nebula around the middle star of the sword hanging just below Orion’s three-star belt. All Things Reptile by Chance Stevens - The Asian House Gecko (Hemidactylus Frenatus) is common, quick and, unfortunately, invasive in Mexico. It is also invasive in Australia, the USA, the Galapagos, East Africa, Hawaii, nearly all of Central America and many parts of South America. Fortunately, in Baja, there are no native species that compete with the house geckos, and they are much less damaging than some other invasive species in other places, for example the Burmese Pythons in Florida.
All house geckos are relatively small and nontoxic, and frequently live in close proximity to humans. They live in trees and houses and eat insects. They are a good food source for many snake, bird, lizard and mammal species. As their name suggests, these geckos are originally from Asia. They have conquered nearly all of their survivable habitat. In my opinion, humans and house geckos have a symbiotic relationship: we give them protection and they eat annoying house bugs!
If you want to talk (or walk) reptiles, please email ChanceStevens123@icloud.com or message 503-777-1404.

MasViento Wind Forecast - (Today: North wind 16-20 mph) ASCAT passes last evening measured 10 knot NNW winds over the southern Sea of Cortez, and model forecasts show similar wind speeds continuing today. Infrared satellite loops show some patchy high clouds are headed this way later today, but plenty of sun will filter through to help give us a good thermal boost. FYI, daily tide information for the La Ventana area can be found here. Wes - daily forecasts: MasViento.

Local Ambulance Services - What a wonderful response we got to our appeal last week! The donations started coming in immediately, and there is now enough for a reserve against the next breakdown. The ambulance is fixed and running again, thanks to your generosity. Lupita is enormously grateful to have this load taken off her shoulders by your speedy support, and is encouraged to persevere in running the service for a while longer. And of course this benefits us all, since any one of us might need the ambulance one day. Heartfelt thanks to those who donated.
Remember, our ambulance is entirely run by volunteers, with no pay or regular funding. Their dedication is extraordinary, but without our support they will burn out. There is no government or other subsidy to cover any of the costs of operating the service except a tiny contribution towards gas, and the payment by users of their own immediate costs. The rest comes from our donations.
We are also happy to announce that La Ventana Bay Properties has made a contribution to the costs of the upcoming training for the crew on extracting patients from crashed vehicles and unstable structures. They are our first business sponsor. We are hoping to make this a trend, to provide some much-needed stability to the service. Thank you, Lana and Adriana. - Chris.bradley3@gmail.com on behalf of the Ambulance Support Group
