  • If you haven’t snorkeled or paddled with green jacks you might try it sometime. It’s great fun. Here’s some clips showing what it’s like. See for yourself! William
Baja Night Sky - Have you ever seen the International Space Station pass over La Ventana? Tonight (Wednesday), it will be almost as bright as Venus. It rises in the SW and goes by Venus at 6:04:30 p.m., then passes overhead in the NW by 6:06:32 p.m., before setting in the NE at 6:10 p.m.
November’s Full Beaver Moon, named by Native Americans, rises Thursday at 5:17:30 p.m. Freezing to death during long winters was a real threat to early inhabitants of Northern America. To survive, making warm winter clothing out of beaver fur was crucial for Native American tribes. The Full Beaver Moon was a signal to finish trapping beavers and complete preparations for the darkest depths of winter. If you have Native American ancestors, watching tonight’s full Moon can bring this memory alive and bring us all closer to nature. Technical note: Since the exact moment of the Full Moon is 1:58 a.m. Friday, that is the date calendars and almanacs give for November’s full Moon. But romantics, who may want to sip wine together during moonrise, are interested in the biggest and brightest rising Moon nearest full Moon. Thursday’s Moon is 99.9% illuminated, Friday’s 99.6% rising at 5:55 p.m., and Saturday’s a mere 97.5% rising at 6:37 p.m. They will all be beautiful.
There is a lunar eclipse Friday morning with maximum eclipse at 2:02 a.m. At the moment of greatest eclipse, 99.1% of the Moon will be in Earth’s shadow. Tom at
MasViento Wind Forecast - (Today: Sunny. Northeast wind 10-12 mph) No ASCAT measurements this morning, but all numerical model forecasts show light and variable winds over the southern Sea of Cortez today, and full sunshine will likely trigger only a relatively light onshore thermal breeze this afternoon. Surface high pressure centered over the northern Rockies of the U.S. will build southeastward into Texas on Thursday and help tighten the surface pressure gradient over BCS, and with another sunny day expected on Thursday, we should see an ample thermal boost. We may get a bonus day on Friday, as the latest global model runs now show just enough north background flow remaining to trigger our thermal wind machine. The surface pressure gradient weakens substantially on Saturday, so it looks like a light-wind day. A new surge of north flow is forecast to make its way down the Sea of Cortez on Sunday, with solid background north flow lasting into Monday. Long-range numerical models show light wind returning on Tuesday. Wes - daily forecasts: MasViento.

Tortuga News - The nightly nest watch is on for the anticipated hatching of the first of two Olive Ridley Turtle nests at the ejido campground. The nest is being monitored nightly, the blessed event could occur anytime.  The second nest will be watched nightly beginning the first week in December.  This nest has a reduced chance of being successful because it is getting late, and colder, in the season.
If you would like to be notified when the hatches occur and added to the phone tree please email me. Roberto: To be on the phone tree you must be willing to leave your phone on 24/7 and call another person or two. Please be aware the hatch will most likely occur in the wee hours.
Please respect the following guidelines if you are planning to attend: unless you are impaired park outside the gate to the campground and walk to the nest, No dogs, No flashlights or flash photos, and be quiet, respect the campers who would rather sleep.
