Baja Night Sky - Next week, the Leonids meteor shower peaks late Tuesday evening, November 16, and early Wednesday morning (I’m posting this today since the Leonids occur before next Wednesday’s Ventana View is published). Leonids often explode, leaving long streaks in the sky. The best time to watch is after the moon sets at 4:30 am Wednesday, November 17. Look east to find the radiant where the incoming meteor stream crosses Earth’s orbit. Wherever they appear, the meteor path will trace back to this radiant. - Tom at BajaNightSky@gmail.com

MasViento Wind Forecast - (Today: Sunny. North wind 22-26 mph) One of the ASCAT satellites measured 15 knot winds over the far eastern sections of the Sea of Cortez last evening , and all of the latest model runs show solid north background flow for today. As opposed to yesterday when clouds affected the consistency of the wind, infrared satellite imagery shows nothing but sunny skies for today, so we will likely see a big thermal boost this afternoon. Surface high pressure building into the western U.S. today will become nearly stationary through the weekend and should sustain enough background north flow over BCS to fully activate our afternoon thermal each day. Models show a reinforcing shot of high pressure working into the Great Basin of the U.S. on Sunday, and this could sustain a good north flow through Tuesday. Wes (daily forecasts: MasViento).
